Greetings and Salutations, Leximo followers!
Ian has invited me to post topics relating to languages, culture and travel. As for my background, I'm a Communications professional residing in the D.C. area with travel experience in Canada, Spain, Portugal, Mexico, Belize and the British West Indies. The latter three from a recent honeymoon cruise (I know it sounds bourgeois but it was his turn to choose).
As for languages, I have extensive German experience along with two years of college Japanese. Right now, I'm considering taking classes in a new language and I keep debating between Spanish or a Middle Eastern language, either Arabic or Farsi. The rational side of me says I should take Spanish as it would be an asset for my job (I work for a retirement plan administrator with a growing Spanish membership) while the romantic side of me wants to try my hand at Arabic.
(This also reflects my growing opinion that American schools should teach all students the basics of one European language, one Asian language, and one Middle Eastern tongue.)
When I come to a decision, I'll announce it for all the Leximo community. In the meantime, I'll make a point of posting fascinating articles based on my travel and cultural interests.
And, Happy New Year!
